Damian Chan Most Improved Male Swimmer 2009/10

13 year old Damian Chan has recently been awarded the coveted Most Improved Marlin Male swimmer award. Press officer Bowman caught up with him and coach Russell Knottley  to get the low down

Damian and T1 guru Russell at the Triangle with the Shield
How did you find out about the award ?

It was in the middle of training last Tuesday when every one got out of the water and I was presented with a lovely shield with my name on it (which he holds for a year) and a smaller replica to keep.  To be honest I thought there was some improvement but didn't think for one moment that the trophy would be mine. I was very excited and happy about the award.

What groups have you been swimming with ?

Back in 2009 I was in group 9 of the teaching area and then progressed to T2.  Three or four months ago there was a step up to T1.   Moving into T1 was hard work to start with but I am now getting used to the longer and faster sets'

Russell pointed out ' when looking at Damian in T2 it was evident that he needed to progress to T1 in order increase his competitive edge and improve on technique, he deserves this award but now needs to press on'

What are your ambitions here at the Marlins ?

'Going forward I would really like to get myself picked for team 2 of the National Swimming League in the autumn. I have heard they are exciting events so would like to experience that.  In the short term I will be entering the remainder of the Club champs and also compete in some open events. It will be important to start getting some official times under my belt.'

Bowman sends congratulations to Damian and looks forward to reporting about further achievements later in the year.
